Restaurant and bar Maene will open in March 2023 on Fashion Street, Spitalfields, offering “relaxed and modern” cooking using British produce.

The opening of this restaurant will be the second venue from Nick Gilkinson, who opened Townsend in Whitechapel Gallery back in 2020.

Set at the top of a 14,000 sq ft, four-storey Victorian warehouse, the restaurant and bar will have its own private lift entrance that will lead guests to the open restaurant made up of counter seating, an open kitchen, a large 18-seater table, a cocktail lounge, as well as a terrace.

The 54-cover restaurant will be open all day serving breakfast, lunch and dinner, with a menu that will take guidance from “what the season has to offer”.

Dishes will include Mersea oysters with pickled Jalapeno and sorrel, allotment fritto misto with smoked chilli aioli, as well as La Latteria Stracciatella with pickled squash and yesterday’s bread and Springfield farm chicken, rosemary, garlic and burnt lemon, green goddess sauce.

According to Gilkinson, the venue aims to “evoke European bistro culture”.
