KFC to reopen 500 locations amid Covid-19 pandemic

Fast food chain KFC has announced it is to reopen 500 of its restaurants for delivery amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

Last month, KFC initially reopened 11 of its UK restaurants and later announced the reopening of an extra 80 of its UK sites amid the Covid-19 pandemic after temporarily closing its doors in March to “protect the wellbeing and safety” of its customers and staff, following government regulations of a lockdown to help stop the spread of the coronavirus.

KFC said the reopening will be done “responsibly and carefully” with stringent processes and hygiene measures put in place. All restaurants will continue serving a limited menu to help the smaller kitchen teams maintain social distancing.  

The outlets will be operating a limited menu and have implemented a number of measures to observe social distancing in these restaurants, which include placing tape on the floor to create designated working zones two metres apart and operating with just one person per station and fewer team members. 

Paula MacKenzie, general manager at KFC UK and Ireland, said: “500 restaurants reopening is a huge milestone. It’s credit to the hard work of all of our amazing teams in the restaurant and we wanted to celebrate the moment.”
