UKH welcomes lifting of restrictions on Freedom Day

Prime minister Boris Johnson confirmed Step 4 of the government’s roadmap out of lockdown will proceed as planned on 19 July

Yesterday (12 July), prime minister Boris Johnson announced the government will proceed with moving into Step 4 of its roadmap out of lockdown, which will begin as planned on 19 July.

As part of the new measures, nearly all legal restrictions will be lifted, however the need to wear face coverings in enclosed and crowded places are set to continue.

Hospitality establishments, such as nightclubs and certain performance venues, will be encouraged to use Covid status certification as a “matter of social responsibility”, according to Johnson.

“A week from now, for the first time in 16 months they will be able to move towards profitability, which is vital for the future of a sector beset by Covid-related debts.”

She added: “For profitability to be reached as soon as possible, it’s vital that businesses are able to reach their own solutions, to suit their settings, satisfy their risk assessments and optimise implementation costs while ensuring safety.

“The voluntary nature of the government guidance should ensure that this is achievable.”
