Michelin-starred chef Aktar Islam closes Legna restaurant

Michelin-starred chef Aktar Islam has closed Birmingham-based Legna restaurant, just one year after opening.

A statement on the restaurant website confirmed that “Legna is now closed for the month of January” and directed customers to Islam’s two other restaurants Pulperia, which is opening early this year and Argentinan resturant, Opheem.

However, the chef told Birmingham Live: “There are no immediate plans for Legna as we utilise this time to focus on the two new venues already scheduled to open this year (Pulperia Brindley Place & Edgbaston).”

He added: “We are sad to say goodbye to Legna and offer our heartfelt thanks to all of our guests that supported us throughout.”

The Italian inspired restaurant, which opened its doors in December 2018 featured a private dining room which overlooked the canal and included a bar which covered 70 people as well as an additional central bar which seated 32 people.
