Edinburgh’s Tower Restaurant to close

The Tower Restaurant, located on top of the Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh, is to close permanently.

The restaurant said that in the light of the “many problems caused by the Covid-19 pandemic” it has made the “difficult decision” to close The Tower.

In a statement posted on its website, the restaurant thanked all the staff and customers “who helped make it what AA Gill described as the hottest table in town”.

However, its sister establishments Prestonfield and The Witchery by The Tower are available for booking now.

James Thomson, founder of The Tower, told the Edinburgh Reporter: “The Tower was the first rooftop restaurant in Edinburgh and quickly gained a worldwide reputation for great food and service which has stayed with us down the years.

“Covid-19 presents us with some insurmountable difficulties and, with our lease coming to an end anyway, we’ve had to take the decision not to reopen. Redundancy consultations have started with 37 members of staff, adding to the toll of jobs affected by the current crisis in the hospitality sector.”
