Leon set to expand into America

Healthy fast food chain Leon is set to expand into America, opening in Washington next week (week commencing 10 September) with plans to open 20 more US restaurants by 2020.

The British company had originally planned the opening of its first US restaurant for 20 August, with the reason for its delay unknown.

Leon CEO John Vincent, said the company’s US arm would mirror that of its UK operation aiming for quick “in and out in three minutes” service for its burgers, wraps and boxes. The move across the pond was described as “natural” by the group’s MD Glenn Edwards.

The fast food chain is not the first in making the move to America at a time when the London restaurant market remains in an uncertain state. London chains Department for Coffee and Social Affairs, Hawksmoor and Taylor Street Baristas have all recently made the move.

While Leon helped to pioneer the ‘fast-casual’ market in the UK, the market has been going strong in the US for a number of years now.
