Tom Sellers launches Story by the Sea pop-up

Tom Sellers has closed his Michelin-starred London establishment, Restaurant Story, and taken the entire team to the Cornish Coast, to launch a six- week residency in Carbis Bay titled Story by the Sea. Located at the Carbis Bay Estate, set on the privately-owned Blue Flag beach, visitors can book for lunch or dinner seven days a week until September 14th. Diners can enjoy a unique five or six-course menu inspired by the ocean and created using local Carbis Bay produce. To drink, a cocktail menu has been carefully crafted to showcase the finest ingredients and is served with innovative snacks at the bar. Twists on classic cocktails feature in addition to some of the Restaurant Story signature drinks. The interiors are a nod to Story’s London home, showcasing a contrast of “traditional luxury with a contemporary aesthetic”. An emphasis has been placed on natural textures and comfortable seating has been arranged throughout. In addition to all this, and to further “emphasise the message of valuing the seas”, Sellers has also launched a collaboration with Parley for the Oceans. Parley for the Oceans is environmental organization and global collaboration network for creators, thinkers and leaders, known for its Ocean Plastic Program. As part of the collaboration, restaurant guests receive a Parley Ocean Bag at the end of their meal - each made from five intercepted plastic bottles and a reminder of the need to protect the oceans by avoiding single-use plastic. The collaboration between Story by the Sea and Parley for the Oceans aims to remove 50 tonnes of marine plastic waste from beaches, remote islands, rivers, mangroves and high seas, as well as coastal communities via the Parley Global Clean Up Network. Speaking of the motivation behind the project, Sellers said: “I have always had the fondest memories of the seaside and a very loving relationship with our oceans. “The ocean is a magical gift we have been given, along with everything found within it, and I feel extremely lucky to have this opportunity to cook within Carbis Bay. The ocean and all that surrounds it will shape our vision for the menu’s creative process and cooking style.” Brad Carter, chef patron of Michelin-starred Carters of Moseley, will join Sellers as a guest chef on the 9 September. After dining at Story by the Sea last week, Carter was “hugely inspired” by the pop-up and by the Parley collaboration Speaking of the pop-up, Carter said: “I’m super excited to be cooking with Restaurant Story in their temporary home at Story by the Sea. Cornwall is one of my favourite places in the UK and to be able to cook here with friends is a real honour! This is a cause that is so important to our natural environment. The partnership with Parley to remove plastic from our oceans is essential to all of us and something that is very close to my own heart.”
