The 250-cover restaurant will become the chan’s first outside of Asia, with plans for a second London restaurant on Tottenham Court Road already in motion. The chain, which described London as the “foodie capital of the world” will serve its signature xiaolongbao dishes made from ingredients imported directly from Taiwan.
Din Tai Fung’s hand prepared food follows a 40-minute six step process carried out by its teams of Dian Xin dim sum chefs. The brand has been in existence for almost half a century with its signature dishes winning its restaurants many accolades including Michelin stars.
A Din Tai Fung spokesperson told Catering Today: “Authentic Taiwanese restaurant, Din Tai Fung has announced the opening date and location for its UK flagship in London, Covent Garden.
“The international restaurant chain takes prime position in London’s theatre and entertainment hub, opening on First Week December 2018 at 5-6 Henrietta Street in Covent Garden, next to the area’s popular West Piazza.
“Din Tai Fung’s London flagship restaurant will seat close to 250 guests and is a welcome addition to the West End as the Taiwanese brand expands into Europe. The global brand has 151 restaurants worldwide and is also set to open its second UK location in London’s Centre Point in 2019.”
