The Oyster Bed restaurant in Whitstable, Kent, has revealed it will remain open despite a fire which broke out in its kitchen yesterday evening (13 February).

Kent Fire and Rescue Service said the incident took place at around 7:48pm and the blaze was extinguished by 8:20pm.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus tackled the fire in the kitchen of the restaurant on the old Thanet Way in Chestfield.

Crews used a high-pressure hose to tackle the flames before clearing smoke and fumes from the property using a large fan.

The service said there are no reports of any injuries and the cause has “not yet been established”.

The Oyster Bed said yesterday: “After a minor incident this evening isolated to the kitchen we have been cleared by the fire brigade. We will be open as usual tomorrow morning for all bookings and walk ins.”
