Chef Aiden Byrne has announced the closure of Restaurant MCR in Manchester.
Originally known as Manchester House, the restaurant was first closed in October 2018 when it went into administration with its sister restaurant and bar Artisan. The restaurant reopened in December 2018 after rebranding to Restaurant MCR.
According to Manchester Evening News, Byrne confirmed the closure yesterday (8 January), he said he was “mortified” but the two-month rolling lease made it too “precarious” to invest in the Spinningfields site.
Speaking about the closure, he told Manchester Evening News that he tried to make the restaurant work but it “wasn’t meant to be.”
He said: “We’ve known it’s been a bit precarious all along and we’ve been going with the flow. But it needs investment and we can’t invest in it because the notice period could be now or in two years’ time. We decided that we couldn’t continue and go forward and spend more money for the inevitable to happen.”
