Townsend, a restaurant and cafe at Whitechapel Gallery, has announced the appointment of Chris Shaw as the site’s new head chef.
Set to take the reins at the restaurant and cafe this month, Shaw succeeds the outgoing Joe Fox, who has taken a senior chef role at the Firmdale Hotel Group.
Shaw brings a range of industry experience to the role, having previously held positions at BAO Soho, Petersham Nurseries, Roux at Parliament Square, and Emile.
To commence his time at Townsend, Shaw will provide a “special summer” set dinner menu, comprising four courses for £30.
Available until 31 August, the courses include radishes with nasturtium pesto, paddock farm pork terrine with house pickles, fillets of gurnard with summer tomatoes and olives, and plum, fig leaf, meringue and whipped yogurt.
Townsend was founded in February 2020 by restaurateur Nick Gilkinson, and consists of the 32-cover restaurant and a 14-sit-down-cover private dining room.
The overall operations of the site are overseen by Hannah Robson, the recently appointed general manager at the venue.
