Papa John’s has announced the appointment of Justin Gilbert as its new director of business development in the UK.
Gilbert has almost 20 years of experience in the pizza industry, having previously worked for Domino’s and Pizza Hut.
He will now be in charge of Papa John’s retail portfolio which includes store construction, acquisition and franchise recruitment, as well as oversee the group’s quality control centre in Milton Keynes.
Liz Williams, the UK managing director of Papa John’s, said: “I am delighted that Justin is joining our leadership team in Milton Keynes.
“His wealth of experience will add tremendous value as we continue to grow the business in the coming years.”
Gilbert first began his career in the US, working for marketing and operations in Domino’s. He also worked for Domino’s International, where he was responsible for a portfolio of more than 1000 stores and 15 markets.
In 2014, he moved to the UK to serve as head of operations for Domino’s. In 2016, he then joined Yum! Brands as director of operations for Pizza Hut Delivery, where he was responsible for the operations, standards, and training of 420 Pizza Hut Delivery and Express units.
Gilbert said: “I am excited about the direction of Papa John’s in the UK. My team will be concentrating on further improving ROI for stores and taking advantage of untapped market opportunities to meet the needs of customers nationwide as we continue to develop the brand.
“Papa John’s has demonstrated excellent new store growth over the past year. We see this continuing as we work with new and existing franchisees who have the overall capability and desire to operate with a significant footprint in the UK.”
He added: “We are also open to partnerships which can support new growth channels, as we aim to help franchisees expand their portfolios and reach the goals they want from their investment.”
