Historic pub to be flattened to make way for 78-room hotel

The historic Rising Star pub in Derbyshire is set to be transformed into a 78-room hotel and restaurant complex.

Gigi Developments is seeking planning permission from Peak District National Park to build the development on Hope Road in Bamford.

As many as 50 new jobs, 150-cover restaurant along with a 117-space car park, would be created by the new development.

The hotel, which aims to be three or four stars will be ran by unnamed independent operators.

A document submitted to the council by Gigi Developments, said: “The hotel closed in 2017 and is currently empty, having proved unviable in its current state to continue trading.

“A business plan has since been developed with input from Hotel Business Advisors and potential Operators which would require the demolition of the current buildings and construction of new, purpose-built premises to provide the standard of facilities expected and quantum of accommodation necessary to secure a long-term future for the site.

“It is considered that the proposals have responded to the site and wider context, addressed comments received from the local authority, with every effort made to reduce the mass and improve highway safety, and have resulted in a building of high quality and of significant benefit to the locality.”
