Michelin-listed 14 Upgate restaurant suddenly announces closure

Michelin-listed Louth restaurant 14 Upgate has announced it will close its doors at the end of the year in a message posted to its Facebook page late last night.

14 Upgate will serve customers for the final time on new year’s eve with owner Andrew Leonard recently looking to begin a new venture on the premises next door to the restaurant. Leonard told Catering Today he was closing the restaurant to focus on the new venture next-door adding “I can’t split myself in two”.

In a statement posted to Facebook, 14 Upgate said: “It was a tough decision but for various reasons we feel it is the right decision. We would like to thank all our guests who have visited us for supporting us and we look forward to welcoming people for our last few months at 14 Upgate. Thank you.”

Much praised chef Michael Bullamore who built up a large following as head chef at the restaurant has said he is to return home to Hull following the restaurant’s closure to begin his own venture.
