Anand raises £200m for pub sector spending spree

Prior to his current directorial role at Wm Morrison he was CEO at Greene King for 15 years

Rooney Anand, the former chief executive at Greene King, has raised £200m to invest in the UK’s faltering pubs sector, Sky News has revealed.

The investment is likely to come in a series of acquisitions in the coming months, in a bet on an industry-wide post-pandemic recovery.

Anand, who spent roughly 15 years as the head of Greene King, has reportedly received backing by an unnamed US-based private equity firm for the takeover spree.

While the sector is among those hardest hit by the ongoing pandemic, there is a widening belief that an easing of restrictions will lead to a resurgence for firms within the industry.

Alongside his responsibilities at Redcat, Anand acts as senior independent director at the supermarket chain Wm Morrison.

Since his departure from Greene King, Anand also held a position as chairman at Casual Dining Group until its collapse into administration in 2020.
