Restaurant group Middletons Steakhouse and Grill has announced plans to expand its portfolio with an eighth restaurant in Chelmsford.
Some £500,000 has been invested into the 170-cover restaurant that is set to open in December.
The group operates an annual turnover of roughly £15m, employing 275 staff across its seven sites in Norwich, Colchester, Milton Keynes, Peterborough, Leicester, and Watford.
Stephen Hutton, managing director at Middletones, said: “We are absolutely delighted. As part of our expansion plans we’ve always wanted to come to Cambridge.
“It’s been our top-target city for the last six years and it’s brilliant news that we can finally open a restaurant here. We are confident that, with the right investor support, we can take the Middletons brand nationwide.”
In addition to the Cambridge acquisition, the firm hopes to add two other sites to its portfolio.
Hutton added: “We’re determined to keep bucking the trend and keep expanding at a time when so many businesses, sadly, are feeling the negative effects of the pandemic.
“There are still opportunities out there and we’re in a position to capitalise on them. We’re in negotiations on additional sites, one of which is in Bury St Edmunds, and we’re looking to keep growing in 2021 and beyond.”
