Subway to close all UK sites from today

Subway stores across the UK are set to close their doors at 5pm today (23 March).

News of the closure closely follows announcements from McDonald’s, Nando’s and Costa, that they have all ceased trading amid the continued coronavirus pandemic.

In a statement on its social media, Subway said: “We want to do everything in our power to protect our loyal guests, dedicated Franchise Owners and amazing sandwich artists.

“So, for that reason, we have authorised all of our Franchise Owners to close their stores in the United Kingdom and Ireland from 5pm today until further notice.”

It added: “We believe that this is the best thing to help support social distancing and keep everyone healthy as possible, for as long as possible.

“However, many of our Franchise Owners are continuing to support the nations’ frontline workers in their amazing efforts, by donating food responsibly, over the next few days.”

It joins both McDonald’s and Nando’s in its pledge to donate remaining food to those in surrounding local communities.

Subway has over 2,000 locations across the UK, and operates in a total of 97 countries across the world.
