Shirley’s Red Lion to undergo refurbishment amid £350k investment

The pub will see a ‘dramatic revamp’ of its interior installing leather-covered booths with their own mini TVs making it more ‘stylish and contemporary’

The Red Lion pub in Shirley has announced its refurbishment amid a £350k investment from newly partnered Tiere Group and Star Pubs and Bars, with Tiere set to take over the lease.

It revealed the pub will close from 4 October and is set to be completed by early December, creating 30 new jobs.

According to Tiere and Star, the project will change the exterior of the 1950s pub, with some of the work set to include adding new cladding, lighting and signs, with a 32-seater alfresco space and a covered area in the courtyard.

The firm added that a new kitchen is also set to be built with meals to be made using ingredients sourced from nearby farms and suppliers, producing a “street food” styled menu such as burgers, ribs and wings.

Jacqueline Frow, Star Pubs and Bars area manager, said: “We’re delighted to be backing Tiere with their exciting plans for The Lion. The investment will develop a range of income streams covering all day parts and occasions, making the pub a strong, sustainable business for the long term.”

The refurbishment is part of Star Pubs and Bars’ 2021 £38m investment programme, which includes 80 major pub makeovers.
