Wiltshire pub named ‘most eco-friendly’ food business

The Wheatsheaf has been named as ‘Business of the Year’ at the SRA’s annual Food Made Good awards, which aim to honour Britain’s environmentally friendly businesses amongst the hospitality sector.

The Berkshire pub was recognised as a leader in sustainable hospitality, having achieved the highest score in the Food Made Good sustainability rating.

It was one of two accolades for their team that night, as the pub also took home the Serve More Veg and Better Meat award.

Ollie Hunter, owner of The Wheatsheaf, said the honours represented “everything we strive for”, having switched to 100% renewable energy and cutting its meat offerings by a third.

Other winners of the night were Yo!Sushi, which received the ‘Source Fish Responsibly’ award after moving to 100% sustainably sourced seafood, whilst Nando’s received an award in the ‘Support Global Farmers’ category. 

Raymond Blanc OBE, president of the SRA, said: “Tonight’s winners of the Food Made Good awards demonstrate that we can take risks, influence our guests to make better choices and use creative skills to ensure that every meal we serve has a positive impact.”
